Our lab studies sedentary behavior patterns, measurement and methodology, determinants, health consequences, and interventions. Our goal is to improve the evidence base around sedentary behavior and health by contributing high quality methodological, observational, and experimental studies that can inform clinical practice and population-level guidelines.
Current focus areas include: measurement; associations with blood pressure, subclinical cardiovascular disease (including pulse wave velocity), musculoskeletal health, and weight outcomes; joint associations with physical activity; special populations (desk workers, pregnant women, hypertension, chronic low back pain, older adults); and randomized clinical trials testing the health effects of sedentary behavior reduction.
